The government of Mexico City reported that a woman was arrested for impersonating a member of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) while intervening in a conflict in the Juárez neighborhood, Cuauhtémoc municipality. The fake police officer attempted to mediate in a fight between two men at the corner of Paseo de la Reforma and Belgrado Street, without being able to prove her affiliation to the security agency. Both she, 34 years old, and a 23-year-old man involved in the fight were arrested and taken to the Public Prosecutor's Office to determine their legal situation.
In a similar case, on March 10 in the Prado Churubusco neighborhood, Coyoacán municipality, a 26-year-old man was arrested for pretending to be a traffic officer at the intersection of Ermita Iztapalapa highway and Capricorn Street. Wearing a uniform of the Undersecretary of Traffic Control, he was discovered removing parked vehicles. After noticing the irregularities, SSC agents arrested him, confirming that he did not have official credentials and seized a replica firearm from him.
According to the National Census of State Public Security 2024 by INEGI, in 2023 there were 474 reported cases in Mexico City against members of public security institutions for committing crimes during their duties. These events highlight the importance of verifying the identity and affiliation to official institutions of those who intervene in conflict situations.
